D.C. To Lift Parking Restrictions On Christmas, New Year's

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Christmas and New Year's holidays mean drivers will have an easier time parking on the streets of the nation's capital.

District of Columbia officials say parking meters, residential parking and rush-hour lane restrictions won't be enforced on Friday or on Jan. 1. That's the usual routine for holidays, when vehicle traffic in the city is light. Drivers will be able to park at meters without paying or stay in residential zones all day without a permit. There will be no towing of abandoned vehicles on the two holidays.

Parking restrictions also won't be enforced along the city's new streetcar line in the H Street, Northeast, corridor.

Regular parking enforcement will resume on Dec. 26 and Jan. 2.
