D.C. Police Involved In 2 Shootings, 1 Fatal

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Police in Washington say officers were involved in two shootings Wednesday, one of them fatal.

Police say the first shooting took place around 3 p.m. in southeast Washington when officers were pursuing a man matching the description of a robbery suspect. Police say the man shot at them and they returned fire, killing him. His name has not been released.

Police say the second shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. when officers were responding to a call for an armed carjacking of a FedEx van in northeast Washington.  Police say officers saw and pursued the vehicle and that the suspect shot at officers who then returned fire.  Police say the man was taken to a hospital and will be charged with assault on a police officer while armed and armed carjacking.
