D.C. Man Gets 18 Years In Rape Of Acquaintance

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A District of Columbia man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after pleading guilty in the rape of an acquaintance.

Alex Patrick McCoy was sentenced Wednesday in the Superior Court of D.C. The 57-year-old pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual abuse in the February 2013 assault.

Prosecutors say McCoy had offered to supply a female acquaintance with an anti-anxiety medication at a reduced price.

When the woman met McCoy at his Northwest apartment to buy the medication, prosecutors say the two smoked crack cocaine together that night and into the early-morning hours. The woman says McCoy's demeanor changed suddenly and demanded that she have unprotected sex with him.

When she refused, prosecutors say he raped her.

Neighbors who heard the woman screaming called 911, and police arrested McCoy.
