D.C. Cameras To Issue Tickets For More Violations

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Traffic cameras around Washington will start issuing tickets for more traffic infractions this weekend.

Cameras have issued hundreds of thousands of tickets for speeding and running red lights, but The Washington Post reports that on Saturday, they will begin targeting vehicles that block intersections or roll through stop signs too. Those violations can bring $50 fines.

The cameras will also catch vehicles that fail to yield to pedestrians, pass through an intersection at an unsafe speed and oversized buses or trucks on streets that are too small to accommodate them. The fines for these violations are $250.

The cameras have been in place since November, but officials extended the warning period until Feb. 1.
