CSX Train Hauling Coal Derails In Bowie

BOWIE, Md. (AP) -- CSX says several railcars carrying coal derailed in Bowie, but no injuries have been reported.

CSX spokeswoman Kristin Seay says about 10 cars of the train traveling from Cumberland to Bowie derailed early Thursday. The train had three locomotives and 63 railcars, all carrying coal.

Prince George's County Fire and EMS spokesman Mark Brady says the cars left the tracks but are still upright. Brady says there were no immediate safety concerns or hazardous material issues and the scene near Old Annapolis Road and Laurel Bowie Road has been turned over to CSX.

Seay says CSX personnel are on the scene assessing the derailment and the cause is under investigation.
