Cruz Hit In Head, Orioles Lose 4-3 To Rays

SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) -- Evan Longoria homered and Alex Cobb pitched four innings in his final spring training tuneup to lead the Tampa Bay Rays over the Baltimore Orioles 4-3 Thursday night.

Cobb hit Baltimore designated hitter Nelson Cruz in the helmet with a fourth-inning curveball. Cruz immediately left the game, but walked off the field under his own power and the Orioles said he was fine after a precautionary CT scan.

Scheduled to start Tampa Bay's second game of the season, Cobb allowed a run and three hits.

Longoria doubled and hit his third home run of the spring for the Rays, who improved the best record in the Grapefruit League to 16-6-4.

Ubaldo Jimenez yielded three runs and six hits in 5 1-3 innings for the Orioles. He walked two and struck out four.

David Lough had three hits for Baltimore.
