Baltimore City Courthouse East Evacuated After Bathroom Causes Flooding

BALTIMORE (WJZ) —  A damaged sink in the women's bathroom at Courthouse East overflowed and sent water flooding into an elevator shaft, forcing an evacuation of the building Thursday afternoon.

Baltimore City Sheriff's Office said deputies began evacuating the building around 3 p.m.

The flooding forced city business happening at the time to shut down.

The sheriff's office said there was minimal impact on prisoner transport.

Officials said the courthouse will open on time Friday but those with early morning appointments are urged to call ahead.

A number of circuit court trials are held in the building, which is also home to a post office.

Court officials hope to be open on time tomorrow, but they urge people with business scheduled to call ahead.
