Costco Seeks Md. County Warehouse Expansion, Creating Jobs

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Frederick County officials say Costco Wholesale Corp. wants to triple the size of a warehouse near Monrovia, creating as many as 200 jobs.

The county planning commission released details of the plan Wednesday as part of its agenda for a Dec. 10 meeting. The Frederick News-Post first reported on the plan earlier Wednesday.

Public records show that the warehouse currently employs about 450 people. Documents released Wednesday by the county show that the Issaquah, Wash. based company is planning for as many as 200 more workers.

The county staff is recommending approval with certain conditions. One condition would require Costco to work with the State Highway Administration on additional signage warning of a low-clearance railroad overpass on Route 75 where tractor-trailers have become stuck in the past.
