Corrections Ofc. Charged With Smuggling Drugs Into County Jail

TOWSON, Md. (WJZ) -- A Baltimore County corrections officer was charged with smuggling Suboxone into a county jail.

According to Baltimore County Police, 31-year-old Melvin Jerome Hodges was charged with conspiracy to distribute CDS and was released on $35,000 bail.

Police began an investigation in early February at the Baltimore County Detention Center after learning about possible drug smuggling at the facility.

Hodges was identified as the person bringing the Suboxone into the facility. The substance was then distributed by an inmate.

He was arrested on Thursday at the Baltimore County Detention Center.

The Baltimore County Police Department is continuing its criminal investigation.
