Coronavirus In Maryland: Total Cases Top 52K; Hospitalizations Decrease
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) -- The number of Marylanders hospitalized with the coronavirus declined again Saturday, as the total number of confirmed cases topped 52,000, data released Saturday showed.
The latest data put the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases at 52,015, up 1,279 in the past 24 hours, and the number of current hospitalizations at 1,239, down from 1,296 on Friday. Just under 750 patients in the hospital are in acute care, while 492 are in intensive care.
In total, 2,390 Marylanders have died due to the virus.

The statewide positivity rate is now 11.6%.

More than 328,000 Marylanders have been tested for the virus; 233,530 have tested negative.
Gov. Larry Hogan's communications director Mike Ricci tweeted the state's rate of positive tests compared to the total has dropped to 11.6 percent, the lowest since March 29.
The number of hospitalizations dropped to the lowest level since April 17, he added.

On Friday, the number of coronavirus cases in the state topped 50,000; half of the total cases were in Prince George's and Montgomery counties. As of Saturday, Prince George's County had 15,022 confirmed cases while Montgomery County landed at 11,251.
Ricci added that the state conducted 1,686 COVID-19 tests Friday at the Six Flags America site in Prince George's County. That is a record high for the state's community-based sites.

Baltimore County is nearing 6,000 total cases, with its count standing at 5,955 as of Saturday. Baltimore City has reported 5,564 cases.
