Vigil Held In Honor Of Dar'yana Dyson, Youngest Victim In Maryland To Die From Coronavirus Complications

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Family and friends held a vigil Wednesday to honor the life of 15-year-old Dar'yana Dyson who died over the weekend from complications due to the coronavirus.

Dar'yana died Saturday at Johns Hopkins Hospital where she was receiving treatment for a pediatric inflammatory disease that the CDC recently linked to COVID-19.

She is the youngest victim in Maryland to die from complications due to the coronavirus.

Baltimore County Officials said she suffered from Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in children which has been linked to the coronavirus.

The Maryland Health Department said this is one of four cases in the state.

Dar'yana lived in O'Donnell Heights with her family. Those closest to her remember her as the life of the party, and a young woman who loved to dance.

Her mother said it all happened so quickly. One minute she was caring for a healthy teenager, and the next her daughter was in the hospital on a ventilator.

"All I know is they called the time," Dar'yana's mother said.

Loved ones held a vigil where they grieved and honored Dar'yana's life.

"You wouldn't think it's that serious, but now that you know your friend has is, it really hurts, it hurts a lot of people," Aliciana Pinkney said.

Her friends are urging one another to take precautions, knowing that the virus is harmful to people of all ages.

"She was loved. She ain't never be forgotten," Dar'yana's mother said.
