Contraband Found In Truck Making Delivery To Prison

JESSUP, Md. (AP) -- Corrections officials say officers at an entrance to a prison in Jessup found hidden boxes containing cellphones attached to a truck making a delivery.

The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services said in an email Friday that officers doing a routine search at the Jessup Correctional Institution found the two boxes.

Officials say the boxes were electrical junction boxes with several magnets attached to the bottom. Authorities say the boxes each held five cellphones and five charger cords with the electrical plugs removed.

The department says the delivery company inspected its other vehicles and found similar boxes containing cellphones and drug paraphernalia on two trucks believed to be intended for prisons.

The department's Internal Investigative Division is investigating the incident.
