Condo Fire In Greenbelt Injures 1 Man, Displaces 18 People

GREENBELT, Md. (AP) -- Fire officials say one man is injured and 18 people are displaced after a fire in a condominium building in Greenbelt.

Prince George's County firefighters were called to the Chelsea Woods Condominiums on Greenbelt Road early Saturday morning. Fire department spokesman Mark Brady says the two-alarm fire drew about 60 firefighters to the scene.

A resident of the condo unit where the fire started was injured. The 86-year-old man was treated at a nearby hospital for smoke inhalation and minor lacerations.

Brady says "excessive storage" of materials in the condo unit from floor to ceiling made it more difficult for crews to fight the fire.

The American Red Cross is assisting 18 residents who were displaced by the fire damage.
