Colonel James McDonough III Named New Naval Academy Commandant

ANNAPOLIS (WJZ) — The U.S. Naval Academy has a new commandant.

Colonel James "J.P." McDonough III was selected to become the 89th Commandant of the Academy.

He graduated back in 1994 and is currently serving as the executive assistant to the Deputy Commandant at Marine Corps Headquarters at the Pentagon.

The commandant is responsible for day to day conduct, training and development of the midshipment.

McDonough will report to the Academy later this summer.
