Wintry Mix, Snow Could Cause Thanksgiving Travel Headaches

If you plan on traveling this year for Thanksgiving, you could run into some problems Today.

Winter storm warnings and advisories have been issued for the Baltimore metro area.

A storm developing off of the Carolina coast bringing travel headaches for millions along the Atlantic Seaboard. Models are indicating that a storm will develop off the coast of the Carolinas, bringing travel headaches to millions from Georgia to Maine. Rain, ending as accumulating snowfall is looking more and more likely for areas including the I-95 corridor.

Wednesday:

A coastal storm is expected to develop off the coast of the Carolinas Wednesday and then track along the coast bringing accumulating snowfall to areas from northern Virginia to Maine by Thursday AM. There is still some uncertainty regarding the track of this system and the track is what will ultimately decide who see what kind of precipitation and how much. For now, accumulating snowfall is likely from I-95 north & west with rain mixing with snow south & east in Maryland. Snow or not… the potential for rain and gusty winds will cause problems regardless on the busiest travel day of the year. For now, Wednesday looks like the worst day for travel of the entire week.

Below is our first thought for Today's snowfall totals. This forecast will likely be tweaked as we get closer to Wednesday and is subject to change.

Thanksgiving:

Other than a residual shower lingering around on Thursday, it looks much quieter and will overall be a better day for travel than Wednesday. Expect highs to be the upper 30s to low 40s. So if you plan on going on the post-Thanksgiving meal walk… bundle up!

Friday:

Looks like great weather if you plan on hitting the stores for all of the "Black Friday" sales & deals. Just keep in mind that it will be cold with temperatures likely in the upper 20s to start the day and highs around 40 by the afternoon.

Saturday & Sunday:

By the weekend, we will still be dealing with great travel weather hear in Maryland as you make it back from your Thanksgiving destination. Highs will be slightly warmer and in the mid/upper 40s on Saturday and low/mid 50s by Sunday.
