Clinton Man Drowns Near Cove Point Lighthouse

CALVERT COUNTY, Md. (WJZ)—A Clinton man has drowned at Cove Point in Calvert County on Saturday afternoon.

It happened just before 1:00 p.m., when authorities say a 57-year-old man and his friend decided to go swimming near the Cove Point Lighthouse.

According to authorities the victim's friend stayed ashore while the man went swimming.

A preliminary investigation has revealed that the victim called for help, but his friend was unable to reach him due to the current.

Authorities say they arrived on the scene to find the victim unresponsive in the water.

Police say he was transported to an area hospital where he later died.

Authorities are continuing their investigation.
