City State's Attorney's Race Garners High-Profile Endorsements

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Baltimore's City State's Attorney race is grabbing attention for its high-profile endorsements.

Political reporter Pat Warren has more on what that may mean for the outcome of the race.

Ten thousand Baltimore voters have already cast ballots. That leaves more than 300,000 who are eligible to vote who haven't been to the polls.

Baltimore voters are being asked to choose a known track record or to take a new direction, depending on the ad.

Former Police Commissioner Fred Bealefeld endorses Gregg Bernstein and Kweisi Mfume endorses Marilyn Mosby.

These are influential endorsements in a race considered critical to the city. Mosby is a voice for change.

"I think that the priorities of the state's attorney's office are off and they've set a tone where there is already a culture of distrust. People are distrustful of the criminal justice system," said Mosby.

Bernstein, as an incumbent, has the support of other state's attorneys, as well as former Police Commissioner Fred Bealefeld.

"I do think that what the public wants to hear is that you are working well with your law enforcement partners. And if they feel you are doing the job and being successful in your efforts, then I think that carries a lot of weight," Bernstein said.

The voters will decide.
