City Councilmembers Demand Answers To Election Problems

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- City leaders demand answers to the problems with this year's primary election and the city council is going to investigate why so many things went wrong.

It's been months since the mayoral primary election fraught with problems and some are still questioning the validity of the numbers.

Councilwoman Mary Pat Clarke is calling on election officials to appear in front of the council with a detailed plan to ensure this doesn't happen in November.

She says she is concerned the discrepancies could convince some not to return to the polls.

A review from the State Board of Elections found about 1,700 primary ballots were mishandled.

A citizen watchdog group has already filed a federal complaint calling for a new primary election.
