Christie To Attend Md. Gov. Elect Larry Hogan Swearing-In Ceremony

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Gov. Chris Christie is beginning the year with a victory lap for fellow Republican governors.

Christie, who is seriously weighing a run for president, will attend Maryland GOP Gov.-elect Larry Hogan's swearing-in ceremony on January 21, Hogan spokeswoman Erin Montgomery said Friday.

Christie is also scheduled to attend Florida Gov. Rick Scott's second inaugural in Florida next week, a spokeswoman said earlier this week.

Christie traveled extensively in his former role as chair of the Republican Governors Association ahead of the midterm elections, and was credited by members of his party for helping to secure victories for Republican candidates.

The RGA spent $19 million -- the largest expenditure in its history -- to help Scott eke out a victory against Democrat Charlie Crist, and went into debt investing $1.2 million in Hogan's race as he gained momentum in the final stretch.

Christie, who says he will make up his mind about running early this year, has also committed to several other stops.

Later this month, he'll attend the Iowa Freedom Summit, a gathering of conservative activists organized by Citizens United and Rep. Steve King.

He's also scheduled to speak February 12 at the 8th Annual Northwest Suburban Republican Lincoln Day Dinner in Illinois, according to Ryan Higgins, a local Republican committeeman.

Higgins said he'd first mentioned the event to Christie aides while the governor was in town stumping for incoming Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner this fall.

A spokeswoman for Christie declined to comment on other potential upcoming trips.
