Chris Van Hollen Makes Last Minute Appeal To Voters

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- It's just hours until polls close in Maryland.

Jessica Kartalija has more on how Congressman Chris Van Hollen spent Primary Day.

Van Hollen stopped at headquarters to talk to volunteers and make a last minute appeal to voters.

"We hope to talk to voters about what's on their minds when they go to the polls. We have volunteers out right now knocking on doors in Baltimore City and Baltimore County, reminding them to get out and go to the polls," Van Hollen said.

Van Hollen said Tuesday that, like Senator Barbara Mikulski, he's in tune with the needs of Maryland communities.

"The issue I hear most about is the need to make sure that every child gets the very best start in life, to make sure she gets the best education, regardless of where he or she grows up, and then that they have an opportunity to get a job," he said.

Backed by most Democratic lawmakers in Maryland, Van Hollen says he's ready to see what happens tonight.

"As we approach the 8 p.m. finish line, we are going to fight for every single vote because the future of the state and the country is up to the voters now and we need to work to get things done," he said.

The polls close at 8 p.m.
