Child Killed In Md. Apartment Fire

MONTGOMERY VILLAGE, Md. (AP) -- Montgomery County fire officials say a child was killed and several other people were taken to hospitals in a two-alarm fire at a Montgomery Village apartment complex.

Officials say the fire started about 4 p.m. Wednesday on Lost Knife Circle in a three-story building. Authorities say one person was trapped on a third-floor balcony and had to be rescued by firefighters who use a ladder to reach him.

Twelve units were damaged in the two-alarm blaze and dozens of residents were displaced.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
