3-Year-Old Dies In North Baltimore Blaze

BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- The cause of death for the 3-year-old girl who died in the fire has been released.

According to Assistant Chief Roman Clark, of the Baltimore City Fire Department, Azyrie Williams died from smoke inhalation.

Original post, March 29, 11:49 p.m.: A fire rips through a home in east Baltimore around 9:00 a.m. Sunday killing a young child.

Tracey Leong spoke to a neighbor who tried rescuing her.

Flowers and balloons sitting outside the home in memory of the three year old girl who lost her life in the blaze.

"Everybody called her momma," said one neighbor.

"It hurts, it hurts right now," said Alonzo Bentley, another neighbor.

Alonzo Bentley who lives next door, risked his own life to try and save the toddler.

"I see the whole upstairs with the flames coming out the window, and they said the baby was up there, and that's all that mattered to get to her, but I couldn't get no further than that dining room," Bentley said.

Officials say this is the fourth fatal fire this year.

"Came upon a two and half story dwelling, heavy fire and heavy smoke showing," said Captain Roman Clark, Baltimore City Fire. "Came upon a young female which we now know to be three years old, she is deceased at this time."

"Everybody taking it pretty hard, like i said she was a sweet little girl," said one neighbor.

"But right now I'm trying to keep my head together, to stay strong for her and her family," said Bentley.

Three other family members were rescued from the home, they suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Officials say there were several working smoke detectors inside the home.
