Cherry Blossom Festival Wraps Up

WASHINGTON DC (WJZ) -- You couldn't have asked for a more picture-perfect day to cap off this year's Cherry Blossom Festival. The buds and the Capitol were in full bloom.

Jessica Kartalija has more.

"We love it here; never seen it before," said one.

"Technically, we do this every year. The beauty of cherry blossoms," said one woman.

Whether you're a cherry blossom pro or seeing them for the first time, this year's last day of the festival was something to remember.

"It's the first time in my 60 years that I've been here at the peak times," said one man.

The Salisbury family brought out all kinds of gear to capture the beautiful blooms. In fact, a lot of people took advantage of the picture-perfect day.

"Lots of times when we came here, it was cold," said a man.

"It's a great day, did $400 yesterday," said a pedi-cab driver.

Big and small businesses cashed in, like a pedi-cab driver.

"On a regular day, if you can come away with $200, that's a good day," the driver said.

The festival is a source of pride for the capital in so many ways.

"Just the beauty and nature. With everything going on right now, I like watching the diversity of different people enjoying the day," said one man.

Monday may be the last really good day to see the blossoms, as rain moves in Monday night. By Tuesday, the blossoms may be well past peak.
