Catherine Pugh Will Be Baltimore's Next Mayor, AP Reports

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Catherine E. Pugh has been elected as Baltimore's 50th mayor, the Associated Press reports.

Pugh, the Majority Leader in her third term as a Maryland State Senator, is also a former member of the state House of Delegates representing Baltimore and a former Baltimore City Council member. She's a graduate of Morgan State University.

Sheila Dixon, who was running for office again after serving as the 48th mayor of Baltimore, lost to Pugh in the April primary but announced in October that she would run a write-in campaign.

Pugh defeated Dixon, Republican Alan Walden and Green Party candidate Joshua Harris.

Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, the 49th mayor of Baltimore, announced in September 2015 that she would not seek re-election.
