Catania Talks Kershaw, Toronto's Rotation & Dansby Swanson

Jason Catania from MLB.com joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn to break down the latest in the MLB.

The Los Angeles Dodgers currently lead the San Francisco Giants by just a half game in the NL West. Catania believes Clayton Kershaw's health will decide the division. "If he makes it back, and can give them even a handful of starts, I would probably lean Dodgers because you'd figure that they would win those games if he's close to Kershaw-level in terms of stuff and health. If it's not him, I would probably pick the Giants."

The Toronto Blue Jays now lead the AL East with just 42 games to play. Catania credits their starting pitching. "This is a team that lost David Price after getting him this time last year and he sort of helped carry them to the postseason. Who would've thought that getting Marco Estrada back, converting Aaron Sanchez [to a starter] and bringing J.A. Happ over, all of those guys have been as good if not better than Price this season who got the $200 million contract from the Red Sox."

The Atlanta Braves called up the number one overall pick in the 2015 draft, Dansby Swanson. Catania told us what to expect from the 22-year-old. "He was drafted by the Diamondbacks, traded in the Shelby Miller deal that looks sort of regretful at this point. He's a good defensive player; plays shortstop, will make contact, runs a little bit. He's coming up from Double-A where he struggled a little. I expect a transition period."
