Case Of Tuberculosis Confirmed In Catonsville

CATONSVILLE, Md. (WJZ) -- A case of tuberculosis has been confirmed within the Catonsville High School community.

According to the Baltimore County Department of Health, the case is being treated and poses no risk to the community.

The health department says the people who were in contact with the person with TB have been identified and will be tested.

"TB is a disease caused by bacteria that usually affects the lungs," the health department reports. "Although this disease is spread from person to person through the air, a person needs to be in close contact for an extended amount of time to become infected."

Symptoms include a bad cough that last longer than 2 weeks, chest pain, coughing up blood, weakness, weigh loss and chills.

The investigation is on-going.
