Capital Bikeshare Faces Shortage Of Keys, Bicycles

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Memberships in the Capital Bikeshare program are up, but the operation has run out of keys for new members to access bicycles.

The Washington Post reports the bicycle sharing program is dealing with a shipment problem. New members will have to wait until the week of July 7 to receive keys.

Program Manager Kimberly Lucas says memberships have increased this year, and Capital Bikeshare had not been able to order more keys due to issues with its supplier.

Capital Bikeshare serves the District of Columbia, Alexandria, Va., Arlington, Va. and Montgomery County in Maryland.

The growing program has been unable to buy new bicycles since its sole equipment provider filed for bankruptcy earlier this year. College Park, Md.was hoping to join the program, but that's been on hold.
