BWI Attempting To Make Travel A Little Healthier

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport is looking to offer healthier options for passengers, including a gym and lower calorie items on their menus starting this fall.

"Passengers are looking to stay active and healthy when they're on the road, they want to get their steps in and want some exercise before a flight," says BWI spokesman Jonathan Dean.

There are already two cardio trails inside the terminal, each one takes 20 minutes to complete. But now there will be a fitness center, as well.

"It will help to energize you, it's really draining to be stuck in the airport all day," says Greg Blakey, a traveler.

BWI restaurants are also on board with the healthier lifestyle, slimming down their menus.

"We've been acknowledged as one of the best airports in the country for healthy food options," Dean says.

"I love the idea of healthier foods," says Katrina Campbell, another flyer.

So the next time your flight is delayed, or you have a layover, use the time to get moving. Maybe even break a sweat, but still... be mindful that you'll likely be sitting next to a stranger for several hours afterwards.
