Bronze Dolphin Statue Coming To Ocean City

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) -- A 20-foot bronze statue of swimming dolphins will soon be installed in Ocean City.

The Daily Times of Salisbury reports resort officials have approved preliminary plans for the statue, which would go at the mid-town entrance to the city.

Lauren Taylor, a member of the nonprofit Public Art Committee of the Ocean City Development Corp., says the statue of a trio of dolphins should be completed by June. It will go at 62nd Street and Coastal Highway near the base of the Route 90 bridge.

The sculpture will be blue-gray in color. The estimated cost of the project is $100,000. Organizers are working to solicit donations and sponsorship to pay for the statue. A fundraiser is planned for March 22.
