Gunman Nowhere To Be Found After 3 Shot In Curtis Bay Neighborhood

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Gunfire erupts in a Curtis Bay neighborhood. Three people are shot and the suspect is nowhere to be found. Baltimore City Police are gearing up for the possibility of more violence heading into the Memorial Day weekend.

Rochelle Ritchie has more on the triple shooting.

Shell casings litter an alley at the intersection of Curtis and Cereal avenues after three people were shot Thursday afternoon.

"We do know the shooting happened in the alley. Beyond that, it's under investigation. As you can see, the detectives are behind me right now going through the crime scene," said Lt. Eric Kowalcyzk, Baltimore City Police.

The shooting victims--one man and two women--are now at the hospital in good condition. Neighbors describe the frightening scene that unfolded outside their homes.

"About five shots. 'Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang,'" said Charles Ward.

Neighbors tell WJZ after the man had been shot he ran through the back door of a home and out the front. That's when they saw him bleeding and called police.

"The guy come out of the alley and he come around here and sit on the step. He was shot down here somewhere," Ward said.

Family members of a man who was inside a nearby garage painting say as the bullets started flying he ducked for cover.

"Three people ran into the garage screaming, 'They're shooting at us, they're shooting at us! Close the doors,'" one man said.

Despite their efforts to get away, all three people were shot. Some fear with the holiday weekend, this shooting could lead to a retaliation shooting, putting innocent people at risk.

"I don't care if you're out in the alley having a cookout with your kids. If you're standing there at the wrong place at the wrong time, you don't know what's going to happen," one man said.

Baltimore City Police say they are adding more officers to the streets--not only Curtis Bay, but all across the city--to make sure it doesn't start or end with a bang.

"We're going to make sure that we have an increased number of uniformed officers out on the street," said Kowalcyzk. "We're also going to have a number of plainclothes officers that you won't see out in our known hot spots so that we make sure that we're not having repeat incidents like we see here today."

Police have not said what led to the shooting or identified the victims. Right now, there is no description of the shooter.

If you have any information on the shooting, you are asked to call police.
