Boy From Sheriff's Youth Ranch Steals Car, Launches Chase

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Officials say a 13-year-old boy from the Maryland Sheriffs' Youth Ranch led Frederick County sheriff's deputies and troopers on a high-speed car chase through two counties in a stolen car.

The Frederick News-Post reports the sheriff's office received a report of a stolen vehicle from the 129-acre ranch in Frederick County Wednesday night. The ranch serves as a group home for at-risk boys aged 10 to 18.

The boy led Frederick County sheriff's deputies and Maryland State Police troopers on a chase through Howard County, their speeds topping 90 and 100 mph.

Law enforcement stopped the car at about 8:15 p.m. on eastbound I-70 outside Ellicott City. The boy, who authorities say was in the custody of the sheriffs' youth ranch on previous charges, was taken into custody.
