Boomer Between The Games: Week 3 Preview With Brian Jones

By DJ Sixsmith

Week 2 of the NFL season featured a slew of injuries and some great finishes. This season, NFL fans will be able to hear even more about their favorite teams in a brand new digital show called Boomer Between the Games. Hosted by NFL on CBS analyst and WFAN radio host Boomer Esiason, the former NFL quarterback gives his thoughts on the week that was in the National Football League and chats with an all-star roster of guests about the upcoming week of games.

This week on Boomer Between the Games, former NFL linebacker & CBS Sports Radio host Brian Jones joined Boomer on the program. Jones played for the Indianapolis Colts, the Miami Dolphins, the Los Angeles Raiders and the New Orleans Saints. Brian is the co-host of Gio & Jones on CBS Sports Radio and a College Football Analyst on CBS Sports Network.

This week's episode started off with a conversation about the Baltimore Ravens, who pulled off one of their biggest comebacks in franchise history on the road against the Cleveland Browns. Jones was extremely impressed with wide receiver Mike Wallace and his two touchdown catches & loved the way the Ravens responded to a huge road deficit. The CBS Sports Radio host claims that Mike Wallace has resurrected his career. Meanwhile, Esiason believes Wallace will become Joe Flacco's go to target this year and sees the Ravens competing for an AFC North title, even though he isn't completely sold on Baltimore yet.

Additionally, Jones and Esiason took a look back at Carson Wentz's masterful performance against the Chicago Bears. The former NFL MVP said Wentz has the poise and command of 10-year veteran. Boomer was quick to point how well Wentz read the defense and made adjustments at halftime. Jones was pleased with the way head coach Doug Pederson trusted his rookie quarterback in the red zone and described just how difficult it is for rookie quarterbacks to succeed on the field and in the locker room. Brian also loved the faith the new Eagles quarterback had in his arm. However, this week's guest was quick to remind Boomer that Wentz could face some trouble this weekend against the vaunted Steelers 3-4 defense.

Speaking of this weekend, Boomer and Brian took a look ahead to a very intriguing matchup between the New York Giants and the Washington Redskins. The former NFL linebacker Jones is hyped for this matchup because it's the first time we'll see Odell Beckham Jr. go against Josh Norman this year. The newest member of the Redskins defense has been widely criticized for his inability to cover top wide receivers. Jones says Norman can put these conversations to rest with a big performance against the Giants. Boomer added that the Redskins are one of the most disappointing teams in all of football and explained why Kirk Cousins is a different player through two games. In fact, Esiason said this game is a must win for the Redskins because 0-3 teams have a less than 3% chance of making the postseason.

Finally, Boomer and Mike grabbed a fan question from Twitter to discuss which 2-0 they believe in the most. Esiason picked the Minnesota Vikings to make it to the Super Bowl before the season began, so it was no surprise Boomer picked the Vikings and their dominant defense. Jones was surprised by Boomer's confidence in new starting quarterback Sam Bradford. The co-host of Gio & Jones on CBS Sports Radio said he's riding with the Giants. Jones is buying Big Blue stock because of their improved defense and the addition of new weapon Sterling Shepard on the offensive side.

Boomer Between the Games will be available every week here on CBS Local Sports. Throughout the entire season, Boomer will be joined by guests like former NFL quarterback Chris Simms, 2x Super Bowl champ Phil Simms & this week's guest Brian Jones. Former Philadelphia Eagles WR Mike Quick will stop by next week to look back at Week 3 and look ahead to the great games in Week 4. Join the conversation with Boomer each week by using #BoomerBTG and one of your tweets could be included in next week's show.
