Body Of Missing Boater Recovered In Gunpowder River

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Authorities say the body of a man whose sailboat was found adrift near Sparrows Point has been found in Gunpowder River.

Natural Resources Police say the body of 40-year-old John Wilmer Conrad III was recovered Saturday evening.

Police say Conrad was sailing from Chestertown, Md. to a Middle River marina on May 25 when he went missing.  A Baltimore County aviation unit spotted his 25-foot sailboat the next morning going in circles near North Point State Park. The Coast Guard boarded the boat and rescued a dog.

Rescuers were forced to call off the search Wednesday due to heavy seas and gusty winds.

Conrad's body was taken to the Medical Examiner's Office in Baltimore for an autopsy.
