Body of Man Missing Since May 12 Found in Potomac River

CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) — Police in Cumberland say they have tentatively identified a body found in the North Branch of the Potomac River as that of a 21-year-old city man who had been missing for more than two weeks.

Police said in a statement Monday that the remains, tentatively identified as those of Mickael Allen Thornton, have been sent to the state medical examiner's office in Baltimore for positive identification and determination of the cause and manner of death.

Police say Thornton was last seen alive May 12 in a South End neighborhood near the river. They say a family on a float trip spotted the body Monday afternoon, two to three miles downstream from where Thornton was last seen alive.

Police say criminal investigators are involved in the case.
