Body Camera Program Pricing Bid Comes In At $12 Million

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Taser International is asking for roughly $12 million to outfit Baltimore police officers with body-worn cameras.

The Baltimore Police Department selected Taser International as the vendor for its body camera program after the Axon model received high marks during a two-month trial period.

The pricing proposal, unsealed at a Board of Estimates meeting Wednesday, says one type of camera worn on an officer's chest costs roughly $3.9 million and another that clips onto eyeglasses costs about $4.1 million. An "unlimited" option that includes technology, a full warranty, GPS and file sharing capabilities and cloud storage costs more than $12 million over five years.

The proposal was sent Wednesday to Baltimore's purchasing department. The exact amount will be subject to negotiation before a contract is presented for final approval.
