Board to Vote on Maryland Universities' Tuition Rate Hike

ADELPHI, Md. (AP) — The board of regents for the University System of Maryland is due to vote on a proposal that would see the tuition at Maryland's public colleges rise by 2 percent for in-state students and 3 percent for out-of-state students.

The Baltimore Sun reports the board is expected to approve the rate hike, which would be the smallest annual increase since a tuition freeze was lifted in 2010.

Gov. Larry Hogan included the increases in his annual budget, but the board of regents, which includes 12 of the state's public universities, must still approve the proposal.

Regent Gary Attman called the latest proposal "reasonable" and "modest."

Under the proposal, annual in-state tuition at the University of Maryland, College Park would increase $185 to $10,181.
