Baltimore Fire Department To Give Away Smoke Alarms To Needy

BALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore's fire department is hosting a giveaway of fire alarms to residents in need.

The B'More Safe Smoke Alarm Sweep will kick off on Saturday. During the sweep, officials will visit residents across the city and offer free 10-year lithium tamper resistant smoke alarms. Baltimore residents can also call 311 and a firefighter will bring a complimentary smoke alarm within two hours of the call.

So far this year, 16 people have died in fires in Baltimore.

The fire alarm giveaway is in conjunction with Mayor Catherine Pugh's Spring Clean Up event.
