Black Friday Shoppers Take Advantage Of Deals On Thanksgiving

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Many stores opened doors Thanksgiving afternoon to accommodate holiday shoppers.

There was a decent sized line at Best Buy in Timonium on Thanksgiving evening. The store opened at 5 p.m. Over two thousand people rolled through the doors to snag up some deals.

This was an all day ordeal. The first person in line at best buy was just 14 years old. He'd been waiting for nine hours. He's in line to buy some new televisions.

The line disappeared around the corner and ended at the back of the of the building. About 200 people waited for the doors open.

The popular items always seem to be flat screens and laptops, and stores are doing their best to woo customers.

Bobby Walsh, with Best Buy, says the wait is definitely worth it.

"When you can get items that are normally 500-dollars for 150-dollars, why not?" said Walsh.

According to Shopper Trak, in-store Black Friday sales in 2015 were about $10 billion dollars last year, but that was a decrease from previous years, so stores are trying to ramp things up so that they can end 2016 on a stronger note."

The store manager at Sears in Hunt Valley says Black Friday sales count for a big chunk of their entire holiday revenue.

"We want to provide all the available channels for our members to be able to shop, whether it's online, in stores, over the phone," said Besu Sileshi, Sears Hunt Valley.

And even though appliances are a big seller at big box stores, the hope is shoppers will snatch up every deal that's too good to leave behind.

While many stores were open later on Thanksgiving and close at midnight or 1 a.m.,other stores like Toys 'R' Us are open through the night.

Other stores like Costco, Home Depot and Petco remained closed for the Thanksgiving holiday.
