Black Bear Spotted on Aberdeen Proving Ground

ABERDEEN, Md. (AP) — Aberdeen Proving Ground officials are warning the public after a black bear was spotted near the Maryland Route 22 entrance to the post.

Facility spokesman Kelly Luster says security personnel spotted the bear early Wednesday moving toward a wooded area.

State bear biologist Harry Spiker tells the Baltimore Sun (http://bsun.md/25h3cbk ) that he believes the young bear is the same as the one recently seen passing through Cecil County and Delaware. He says bears can travel more than 100 miles after being dispersed from their childhood homes.

Authorities urged residents to not leave food outside.

Anyone who sees the bear is advised to not approach it and to call 911 immediately.
