Winter Storm Watch/Advisory For Parts Of Md. Friday/Saturday

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Frigid temperatures have moved into Maryland, and frozen precipitation is possible Friday night into Saturday morning.

Today it will remain cold and there's a possibility for a wintry mix overnight into Saturday.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch from late Friday night through Saturday morning for Carroll, Allegany, Frederick, Northern Baltimore, Northwest Harford and Washington counties.

A Winter Weather Advisory has also been issued from late Friday night through noon Saturday for several counties.

NWS says there's potential for a quarter inch of freezing rain and up to an inch of snow and sleet in those areas.

"We could see an inch of frozen precip," WJZ's Marty Bass says. "We are going to see some snow go to sleet, and then remember, the ground has a memory. It's very cold out there right now. So even after we get a changeover to rain, you could end up with some slick spots...it could be a little dicey."

A big push of mild air will define Saturday afternoon and night, with temps never really leaving the upper 40s, and temps will be closer to 60 degrees around noon on Sunday.

Temps Sunday afternoon, though, will fall, with clearing skies, and on Sunday afternoon as a cold front drives across the region. That will set us up for a sunny but cold start to next week. The normal high next week will be 44 degrees. The forecast highs on Monday and Tuesday will be in the mid 30s.
