Binghamton Beats UMBC 72-70

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Yosef Yacob scored 20 points as Binghamton fended off a late-game UMBC rally to win 72-70 on Saturday night.

Marlon Beck had 16 points for the Bearcats (7-20, 4-10 America East Conference). Jordan Reed scored 12 and Roland Brown added 10.

Yacob scored 14 first-half points including hitting 4 of 7 from beyond the arc to lead Binghamton to a 41-30 advantage at the break.

Trailing by double digits through most of the second period and down 62-53 with 6 minutes to play, UMBC rallied back with a 15-4 run to lead by two, 68-66, with 1:42 left. The Bearcats finished with Jordan hitting from inside the paint and Yacob and Karon Waller each going 1 of 2 from the line to keep the Retrievers at bay.

Binghamton outrebounded UMBC 32-24.

Rodney Elliott led the Retrievers (9-19, 5-10) with 19 points.
