Bill Ripken Talks Latest Stories In MLB

Former Oriole and current MLB Network analyst Bill Ripken joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn to talk about the latest in the MLB, including a funny heckling fan story.

Dylan Bundy was stellar for the Orioles last night allowing only one hit over seven scoreless innings. Ripken discussed the importance of Bundy and Kevin Gausman down the stretch. "They've been lacking two through five…I think the keys are the two guys, Bundy and Gausman, to go out there and give you some borderline dominant performances every now and then, and Bundy certainly lived up to that last night."

The trade deadline on Monday was filled with last-minute moves. Ripken brought up two trades that stood out to him. "I like Matt Moore going to San Francisco…If [Johnny] Cueto doesn't opt out after 2017, you're looking at [Madison] Bumgarner, Cueto, Matt Moore, and [Jeff] Samardzija for years to come…The other move I like is [Andrew] Miller going to Cleveland…Cleveland's staff is basically all locked up for a while."

The home-plate umpire in Philadelphia last night ejected a heckling fan. Ripken told his best heckling fan story. "I remember being in New York…I'm out there in BP. Got a little twelve-year-old kid with his dad standing on the first base side because I'm playing second base taking ground balls. Finally back up into short right to shag balls and this kid goes, 'Give me a ball, give me a ball.'…I pick up a ball, run over there to him, chuck it to him sitting there and the twelve-year-old kid goes, 'You still effing suck!', and the dad looked pretty proud."
