Bicyclists Riding In Silence To Honor Those Killed On Roads

WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) -- Maryland bicyclists are gathering at several locations to silently ride in memory of cyclists killed or hurt on public roadways.

The events Wednesday are part of an international effort called Ride of Silence that is meant to draw attention to bicycle safety and awareness.

The nonprofit organization Bike Maryland is hosting a ride Wednesday evening in Westminster. The group says other rides are scheduled in Baltimore, Olney, Hagerstown and Rockville.

The Westminster event is in remembrance of John Martin. He died nearly five years ago in a collision with a cement truck in Union Bridge.
