Bethesda Shop To Be Fined Over Giant Skateboard Decoration

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- A Maryland skateboard shop could face fines because of a 12-foot-long skateboard decoration that hangs on the outside of its store.

Television station WJLA-TV reports that last week the owners of Bethesda Scooters and Boards on Fairmont Avenue in Bethesda heard from the county's zoning department. That's after someone filed a complaint about the supersized board.

The violation notice the shop got says the store's owners need a permit for the giant blue skateboard or need to remove it altogether. If they don't comply, they could be fined.

The store's owners say they think the skateboard is pretty and whimsical and tourists like to take their picture with it.

Even if the store owners apply for a permit for the skateboard it's not clear they'll get it.
