Bark Social, Membership Dog Park That Serves Coffee, Beer To Open In Maryland

NORTH BETHESDA, Md. (WJZ) -- When you think of a dog park, you typically think of an open area where dogs can run free.

But what about a place where your dog can be off the leash and you can also sit, have a cup of coffee, grab a bite to eat or enjoy a craft beer?

That's the idea behind a new, membership dog park that's getting ready to open in North Bethesda!

The park is set to be 25,000 square feet of outdoor space for dogs to run around together monitored by "Bark Rangers", plus 2,500 square feet of covered patio and 1,500 square feet of air-conditioned indoor space with a craft beer and coffee bar.

There is also a separate small breed area for smaller dogs.

The park will start doing a "Yappy Hour" in the late afternoon into the night, where members can enjoy 20 rotating taps with a focus on local craft brews. They are also teaming up with Ceremony Coffee, the Annapolis based brand.

Other events will include Doga, or dog yoga, singles nights and contests, and the venue is available for private events including dog birthday parties, corporate events and fundraisers.

For $265 a year, or $39 a month, dogs can come to play or just relax. Humans can come for free!

All the dogs are off-leash, as their website actually says leashed dogs can cause leash aggression. Dogs must be at least four months old, but there are no breed restrictions, but all dogs must be up to date on their vaccinations and have to be spade or neutered.

Plus, the startup also has its own line of pet retail and treats that are made right here in Baltimore. The space also has self-serve dog baths where you can clean up your pal after they run around the dog park! The pricing starts at $15 per bath and $10 for annual members.

They added the open-air areas are meant to create a safe environment and maintain social distancing during the pandemic.

This location is expected to open in September, but Bark Social already has plans to expand to the Baltimore area.
