Baltimore's Port Covington About To Get Major Makeover
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Monumental changes are on the way to Baltimore. The south Baltimore peninsula is getting a makeover that will revitalize a community.
Tracey Leong has the multi-billion dollar plan for Port Covington.
Pretty soon, the waterfront park will be transformed and nearly unrecognizable. The goal is to make it a world class destination.
The prosperous transformation of Port Covington promises a greener space and limitless economic potential.
Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank is the mastermind behind the multi-billion dollar facelift.
"This is Baltimore's front porch and our job and mission is making this front porch as fine and second to none as any destination in the country, in the world," Plank said.
This past fall, Plank announced his excitement for this new venture that will also include a new world headquarters for Under Armour.
Since announcing these plans, they've wasted no time in getting started. Construction is well underway for the Sagamore Spirit distillery, which will cover five acres of the sprawling 266-acre site.
Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake is looking forward to growing our city.
"A project that can bring more jobs and vitality to the city is a great thing," she said.
The new vision is rolling out in advertisements playing out across Charm City, re-energizing Baltimore and providing families with endless possibilities.
Construction for the waterfront park is set to begin later this year.
The commercial developments are expected to be complete in the next two years.
