'First Babies' Of 2015 Welcomed Around The Baltimore Metro Region
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- As the world welcomed in the new year, Maryland welcomed its first baby of 2015. A 9 lbs. baby girl was born at 12:03 a.m. at Sinai Hospital.
And over at Franklin Square Hospital, another New Year's baby was welcomed just after 3 a.m.
Meet little Zion, a 7 lbs, 7 oz. bundle of cuteness. Mom, Zyteisha Dorthalina was a little surprised by Zion's arrival.
"I wasn't expecting to have a New Year's Eve baby," Dorthalina said.
That's because Zion's due date is more than two weeks away. He came early or right on time to ring in the new year.
"The best thing ever for first year," Dorthalina said.
Zion joins two brothers and a sister.
And over at Sinai Hospital, they're celebrating another bundle of joy, 9 lbs. 1 oz., Lyne Charegho. Lynn is the first baby for her family. Both mom and baby girl are doing well. Mom recently moved to the U.S. from Morocco.
It was a busy day for Sinai doctors and nurses as they had six New Year's babies so far.
In Anne Arundel County, it was another baby boy. Jennifer and Thomas Haslup, of Pasadena, welcomed their son at 5:01 a.m. at Anne Arundel Medical Center. He weighs 7 lbs., 9 oz.
Another girl was named the first baby in Howard County. She was born at Howard General at 1:59 a.m.
Many of the first babies born in the new year go home with a special gift basket put together by the nurses. It's filled with blankets, hats, booties and other essentials.
Congrats to all the new parents this morning!
