Maryland Weather: Potential for storms triggers Flood Watch

BALTIMORE -- The Baltimore area has been looking at a high of 90 degrees on Wednesday with mostly moderate humidity in place.

But with a cold front draped across Maryland, showers and thunderstorms are likely.

An Areal Flood Warning is in effect for Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties until 11 p.m.

Also, a Flood Watch remains in effect for Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Baltimore City, Calvert, Charles, Frederick, Garrett, Prince George's, St. Mary's, and Washington counties until 11:00 p.m.

An Areal Flood Warning is in effect for Allegany County until 11:15 p.m.

An Areal Flood Warning is in effect for Anne Arundel, Montgomery, and Prince George's counties until 1:15 a.m. on Thursday.

Additionally, an Areal Flood Warning is in effect for Anne Arundel, Montgomery, and Prince George's counties until 1:15 a.m. on Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service, some storms could produce damaging winds up to 60 miles per hour and heavy rainfall.

Thunderstorms have produced 2.5 to 4.5 inches of rain in some areas. There could be additional rainfall of 0.5 in those same areas, according to the National Weather Service.

Widespread power outages may be possible. As of 10:15 p.m., BGE reported 118 power outages affecting 1,855 customers. Most of the power outages are impacting people in Baltimore, Baltimore County, and Anne Arundel County, according to BGE's data tracker.

Some of the MARC trains experienced delays due to the severe weather, according to Maryland Transit Administration staff.

Flights to and from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport were canceled throughout the day, according to Flightaware's data.

On Wednesday, the flight data tracker noted that there were 89 cancellations into and out of the airport. There were 185 flight delays during the same period, according to Flightaware.

But as First Alert meteorologist Tim Williams points out, things only get better as the week goes on.

A second front moving through the area will usher in lower dewpoints and mainly clear skies through Sunday.

We might see some more rain Thursday, but it will be mostly sunny with a high near 88. 

Friday will be sunny with a high near comfortable 83! It's more of the same for Saturday and Sunday. 

In other words, it's safe to make your outdoor plans for the weekend, knowing that Mother Nature will cooperate.
