Baltimore To Ticket Homeowners, Businesses Who Don't Shovel

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Baltimore will start ticketing homeowners and businesses owners who haven't shoveled their sidewalks after a historic storm dumped nearly 30 inches of snow in the region.

Housing Commissioner Paul Graziano said at a briefing Tuesday that the city will start enforcing the ordinance on Wednesday.

He says the ordinance normally takes effect six hours at the end of a storm, but city officials waited three days because of the magnitude of the storm.

The law requires owners to clear a two-foot path on sidewalks that front their homes or businesses, and not block storm drains.

Fines are $50 for homes and $100 for commercial properties.

Graziano says enforcement will start on major corridors and along bus routes.
