Baltimore Students Prepare For Star-Spangled Spectacular

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Baltimore is preparing for a big celebration. It's all to commemorate the 200th anniversary of our national anthem with the Star Spangled Spectactular.

Jessica Kartalija has more on the preparations being made for the big celebration.

As Baltimore prepares for the Star-Spangled Spectacular, students at Francis Scott Key Elementary get a taste of the red, white and blue.

Principal Mary McComas delivered the cupcakes to students, also dressed in red, white and blue, to celebrate the bicentennial of our national anthem.

"I think it will be one of their experiences in their childhood that they will look back and remember," McComas said.

To show pride for our city and our city schools, students from National Academy bakes the sweet treats.

Principal McComas hopes the kids learn a valuable lesson.

"It's the Star Spangled Banner. Francis Scott Key wrote it and we are the school of Francis Scott Key," said Josiah Mogley.

"I think it's a very interesting and cool thing to be at a school named after the person who wrote the Star Spangled Banner," said another student.

The celebration starts Tuesday.
